Kolkata Echoes Delhi's Demand for Student Justice
In West Bengal, the Kolkata CJP Solidarity Hub organized a massive emergency rally on Tuesday afternoon, July 21, 2026, sweeping through central Kolkata from historic College Square to Esplanade.
The demonstration was called specifically to register outrage against the police lathi-charge and tear gas deployment on student marchers in New Delhi on July 20.
Unified Student Front in West Bengal
The rally saw enthusiastic participation from major regional student bodies, including representatives from Jadavpur University, Presidency University, Calcutta University, and Medical College Kolkata.
- Slogans & Art: Students carried giant woodcut prints and black banners with Bengali calligraphic slogans reading "Parikshar Swachhata, Amader Adhikar" (Exam Transparency is Our Right).
- Public Meeting at Esplanade: Addressing a gathering of over 3,000 people at Channel 8 Esplanade, Kolkata coordinators condemned the central authorities' handling of peaceful student dissent.
Regional Demands & Digital Sync
The Kolkata Hub reiterated its pledge to operate as a zero-funding, volunteer-run mirror node. Volunteers installed live LED monitoring screens displaying real-time text dispatches and video feeds from Jantar Mantar and Sonam Wangchuk's health updates at Medanta Hospital.
"Kolkata has historically been the beating heart of student movements in India," declared a Kolkata CJP spokesperson. "What happened in Delhi on July 20 has only ignited stronger determination across Bengal."
