CJP Presses for Written FIR Withdrawal Guarantee

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has put the Centre on notice once again. After calling off its 36-day Jantar Mantar sit-in following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the youth-led movement is now laser-focused on one remaining promise: a formal written agreement withdrawing all FIRs against peaceful protesters and organisers.
The Core Demand
On 25 July, during talks with Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, CJP leaders say the government agreed that:
- All FIRs filed across the country against protesters would be withdrawn
- No new cases would be registered in future
- Detained students and volunteers would be released
A draft agreement was submitted. The government was to return a written version after legal consultations by Tuesday (28/29 July). That document has not fully materialised.
Midnight Claims & Partial Progress
Spokesperson Saurav Das reported late-night meetings where government representatives shared notifications from Bihar and Assam guaranteeing FIR withdrawals, no future action, and release of detainees. Similar assurances were promised from the Centre and other NDA-ruled states.
Yet CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka and founder Abhijeet Dipke continue to warn: without a clear written central guarantee, the agitation will resume — and could be bigger.
Kolkata Angle
In West Bengal, CJP units have already shifted gears. The planned 29 July Calcutta rally was called off after the national breakthrough. Local organisers now prioritise education infrastructure demands — better campus facilities, student bus fares, and dialogue with the state government. Kolkata solidarity networks remain on standby, ready to mobilise if the national FIR issue remains unresolved.
Why It Matters
This is no longer just about one minister’s resignation. It is about whether a government promise made to Gen-Z protesters holds weight. Students who marched, sat through heat, and faced police action are watching closely. So is the rest of the country.
