Strategic Transition from Hunger Strike to Operational Leadership
On the morning of July 20, 2026, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke formally concluded his 3-day indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.
Dipke had embarked on the fast on July 18 in protest against the forced removal and hospitalization of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk by Delhi Police.
The Message from Safdarjung Hospital
The decision to break the fast came after a written message was delivered to the protest podium by Wangchuk's legal counsel from Safdarjung Hospital. In his message, Sonam Wangchuk wrote:
"Abhijeet, our strength lies in staying active and leading the youth on the streets. I am monitoring my fast from the hospital ward. You must stay healthy and preserve your energy to coordinate the thousands of students who have traveled to Delhi for the Sansad Chalo march."
Breaking the Fast at Jantar Mantar Podium
Surrounded by student coordinators from West Bengal, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, Dipke accepted a glass of fresh lime juice offered by senior student delegates at 9:30 AM.
Addressing the gathering immediately after, Dipke stated:
"Sonam Wangchuk ji’s advice is absolute. A fast is a spiritual weapon, but today our students need operational leadership on the ground. I break this fast not out of weakness, but to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with every student marching to Parliament today."
Following the announcement, Dipke took direct command of volunteer logistics, security cordons, and press coordination for the July 20 demonstration.
